Custom Denim Washes and Crafts
Denim fabrics are available in only six colors: indigo, bright blue, extra-dark blue, blue-grey, black, and white. To achieve an attractive denim shade, jeans must be processed in a wash house through the following steps:
1. Desizing
2. Stone washing
3. Shade adjustment – depending on the target lightness, they are treated with potassium permanganate or bleaching solution to reach the desired pale tone
4. Additional effect treatments, such as:
• Tumbling with pumice stones or industrial salt in bleaching liquor
• Towel bleaching (rubbing with a bleach-soaked towel)
• Potassium permanganate “scan” washes
• Whisker (honeycomb) spraying for cat-whisker effects
5. Neutralization of residual bleach and thorough rinsing to remove all chemicals
6. Optional softener application for enhanced hand feel
7. Drying – with continuous monitoring of dimensions to ensure they remain within specification
8. Final color inspection – garments with unacceptable shades are returned for reprocessing; those that pass are packaged for delivery and sent on to the final finishing stage.
